Something a bit different for the ISDGN crew, not so much of a commercial build but a amalgamation of containers already on site to provide a learning and rehabilitation environment for the raptors that inhabit our local area. The Raptor Trust in Timaru currently have an area where four containers reside which are used as safe havens for any injured or sick hawks, falcons and owls that the public may have contacted them about. Their idea is to provide a learning classroom along side the rehab area for groups to come and learn the importance of these birds in our ecosystem as well as getting a close up look at the birds.
The design will consist of a large roof structure to join all of the containers together and provide a viewing deck so that the keepers can show off the birds skills in the green area beyond. Two containers will be joined via a new structure that will open up to the deck on one side and provide a staff area on the other. Kitchen, storage, toilets and an incubator room will make up the rest of this area. The other two small containers will be the residence for any birds requiring medical attention or rehab.
Due to the use of the shipping containers, the exterior will be mostly Colorsteel with the internal linings to be fit out with ply.
